DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE
Bembé Drum & Dance is a cultural performing arts organization in the city of Milwaukee that inspires music and performance skills, intergenerational connection, and cultural identity exploration through Afro-Latino musical culture. Now in its 5th year, Bembé engages over 500 students per year, ages 5-95, through multiple in-school residencies & year round programs, as well as our public academy, Academia Bembé. Bembé also hosts community performances multiple times per year.
We are seeking a Development Associate to support our overall sustainability plan and manage a portfolio of 10-12 institutional giving grants (private foundation and government):
Position details:
Part-Time, Salaried
$20,000- $22,000/year
Starting Date: As soon as possible
Responsibilities:
Grant Prospecting & Writing
Identify grant prospects from local and national prospecting sources, determining Bembé's eligibility to apply
Create and maintain a submission schedule
Serve as lead coordinator and writer on all grants
Grant Management
Track grant spending with support of key program staff
Funder communications and reporting
Complete mid-term and final reports with the support of contributing staff members.
Maintain periodic communications with funders to update on key program details.
Attend funder-required webinars and training for grantees
Requirements
Minimum of 2 years experience in a grant-writing or institutional giving role for a non-profit
Excellent written communication, attention to detail, and digital organizational skills
Experience structuring grant attachments, including budgets and other supplementals
Fluency in Google Drive, Calendar and collaborative working documents
Integrity, honesty, strong work ethic
Demonstrated commitment to BIPOC cultural arts initiatives preferred
Experience fundraising for community-based organizations, youth development organizations, and/or arts-based organizations preferred.
